To get paid on time, you’ve got to stay on top of billing your customers. These invoicing programs and apps will help you manage your accounts receivable better so you get paid sooner.

If you’ve ever worked as a freelancer or started your own business, one of the toughest things to maintain is getting paid in a timely fashion. It can be pretty difficult to manage your invoices, especially when you have multiple clients at the same time. Here is a list of the five best invoicing apps to use in your freelancing business.

Easily invoice clients and get paid faster with ZenBusiness Money

QuickBooks:

I’m sure the name rings a bell but I doubt you’ve actually looked into any of their services because you may think they’re a little pricey – but they’re not. One of the big benefits of QuickBooks is the fact that they are compatible with PayPal and give you many statistical trackers to look after. They show you all of your balance sheets, invoicing, profit and loss, as well as a business center service that helps to assist you in your Quickbooks journey. The average price is around $39.00 or less.

Tallie:

One of the selling points for Tallie is the fact that they do such a fantastic job of tracking your business expenses. They even have software that detects duplicate payments and allows you to sync up to your accounting software such as QuickBooks, which ultimately would give you the elite full spectrum of services making your one-man-band feel like a team. Tallie runs $9 a month per user.

Invoice Ninja:

Invoice Ninja is probably one of the coolest pieces of software to add to your arsenal when freelancing or working with contractual small business type work. Invoice Ninja even goes as far as allowing you to have that big business feel by adding your logos to custom reports and invoices. In addition to the cool add-ons, it works wonderfully in conjunction with PayPal and Stripe. Another great feature is when you send out the invoices you can see when they’ve been delivered, read, and paid. Invoice Ninja is FREE but you can upgrade to their Pro service for more features at $50.00 a year.

Xero:

Xero is another cool piece of software that affords you luxury accounting and invoicing options that don’t hurt the wallet too much. They are very mindful of small businesses and their needs, especially in the fact that they allow you to send recurring invoices, perform payroll services, and prepare W2’s and I9’s. It is also compatible with PayPal, Square, and other well-known payment services. The starter plan for Xero is $9 per month.

Invoicera:

Invoicera is another very likable piece of software that allows you to accomplish a lot with minimal headaches and frustration. This is definitely for those who don’t enjoy keeping their own books and cash flow information as well as online payments. It’s pretty much tailored to fit all of your needs whether you’re a large company or a freelancer working in your pajamas. The custom invoicing reports are a cool feature as well. Invoicera starts at FREE for three or fewer clients then moves to $19.95 a month, $39.95, or $99.95 for the premium package.
